OTF Grant Allows Local Agency to Expand Classroom

Peterborough, ON – On Friday, MPP Dave Smith was at Dalhousie Youth Support Services (DYSS) to hear from them about the impact that a $131,300 Resilient Communities Fund grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) has had since receiving it in 2022.  The grant was used to renovate part of their building and create a second classroom.

‘I am pleased our community has an organization like Dalhousie Support Services that help youth who are in conflict with the justice system,” said MPP Dave Smith. “These programs are committed to assisting them to develop their full potential, the renovations and expansion for more learning space from this Resilient Communities Fund grant has allowed them to do just that,” MPP Smith added.

The project by DYSS was completed in March and now gives staff and students more space to stay safely distanced if needed, as well as provide a second classroom space as DYSS expands in future. In addition to the expansion of the classroom, DYSS was able to renovate its laundry facilities and upgrade classroom equipment to better meet the needs of students.

“The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be overstated,” said Karen Carr, Executive Director of Dalhousie Youth Support Services. “This grant has allowed needed renovations to be made to allow us to deliver our program when social distancing is required. We also want to congratulate the Ontario Trillium Foundation on 40 years of granting and building healthy and vibrant communities across the province.”

Dalhousie Youth Support Services is a non-profit organization committed to helping youth in conflict with the law in the Peterborough area. Their innovative programs promote and develop positive social behaviours and encourage personal and academic growth. For more information, visit www.dyss.ca.
